Why Watch This

Stéphane Brizé offers a raw, unflinching look at a young conscript’s moral crisis during a fictional 2026 overseas deployment, blending stark realism with quiet moments of humanity. The film’s handheld cinematography and sparse dialogue pull viewers directly into the soldier’s internal conflict, making the experience both intimate and unsettling.

The CinePearl Take

Brizé’s direction remains his trademark—patient, observational, and unadorned—allowing the story to breathe without melodrama. The unnamed lead delivers a haunting, almost wordless performance that captures the soldier’s growing disillusionment. While the pacing is deliberately slow, it serves the film’s meditative tone, inviting reflection on duty, trauma, and the cost of obedience. The final sequence, shot in a single, uncut take, lingers long after the credits roll.
