The CinePearl Take

Shanil’s debut showcases a surprisingly confident hand at weaving multiple storylines without losing focus, thanks largely to the understated yet powerful performance of the matriarch, played by veteran actress Sukumari. The film’s pacing mirrors the leisurely preparation of an aviyal—slow at times, but richly rewarding as flavors develop. Its core theme—how traditions can both bind and free us—is handled with a tenderness that avoids melodrama, making the climax feel earned rather than contrived.
