Why Watch This

‘Bad Living’ pulls you into the cramped corridors of a family‑run nursing home, exposing the uneasy compromises that keep the business afloat. The film’s naturalistic dialogue and unvarnished visual style make the characters’ moral dilemmas feel both intimate and unsettling.

Best For

Drama lovers, Portuguese cinema fans, Social issue enthusiasts, Character‑driven story seekers, Slow‑burn narrative fans

The CinePearl Take

Canijo’s direction is unflinching, letting the claustrophobic setting of the nursing home dictate the film’s rhythm; the pace is deliberately measured, letting tension fester beneath everyday interactions. Adelaide de Sousa delivers a haunting performance as the eldest sibling, balancing resignation with a flicker of defiance. The themes of exploitation, generational conflict, and the commodification of care linger long after the final frame.
