The CinePearl Take
While the cast remains largely unknown, newcomer Hiroshi Tanaka anchors the story with a quietly terrified performance that gradually cracks under the cloud’s pressure. Kurosawa’s signature long takes amplify the claustrophobic ambience, letting dread seep in like the mist itself. Thematically, the film is a meditation on how societies suppress grief, making the supernatural element feel eerily personal. Though the narrative occasionally drifts, its visual poetry compensates, leaving a lingering chill.
