Why Watch This

“Copper” immerses you in the rust‑colored world of a remote Mexican copper mine, where the line between documentary and narrative blurs into a haunting portrait of labor, loss, and hope. Nicolás Pereda’s patient lens captures the daily rituals of miners with an intimacy that feels both observational and dramatically charged.

The CinePearl Take

Pereda’s decision to cast actual miners—most notably José, a veteran of the shaft—creates a raw, almost lyrical performance that anchors the film’s meditative rhythm. The pacing is deliberately slow, allowing the clank of machinery and the whisper of wind to become narrative beats. Themes of exploitation and community resilience surface subtly, never preaching, but lingering like copper dust on the screen. Visually, the muted palette turns the mine’s interior into a character of its own, reflecting the miners’ inner corrosion and endurance.
