Why Watch This
Cuties daringly captures the clash between a conservative Muslim household and the hyper‑sexualized world of social media, seen through the eyes of an 11‑year‑old who joins a dance troupe. Its raw, almost documentary‑style energy makes the uneasy transition from childhood to adolescence feel both immediate and unsettling.
Best For
Art‑house fans, Social‑issue watchers, Coming‑of‑age enthusiasts, Parents, Cultural critics
The CinePearl Take
Mariam Zekri delivers a startlingly natural performance as Amy, embodying both innocence and a yearning for acceptance. Doucouré’s pacing is deliberately uneven, mirroring the chaotic rhythm of a teen’s online life. The film’s central theme—how modern media can hijack youthful expression—hits hard without resorting to preachy melodrama, making it a provocative, conversation‑sparking piece.
