Why Watch This
Govind Vishnu’s debut, Daveed, captures the restless energy of Kerala’s coastal towns through a tightly wound story about a young fisherman caught between tradition and ambition. The film’s raw cinematography and a standout performance by Lijomol Jose give it a visceral edge that’s rare in mainstream Indian releases.
Best For
Malayalam cinema fans, Indie drama lovers, Social issue enthusiasts, Fans of Antony Varghese, Female‑led narratives
The CinePearl Take
Varghese delivers a restrained, almost brooding turn as Daveed, but it’s Lijomol Jose who steals the show, imbuing her character with a fierce vulnerability that anchors the film’s emotional core. Vishnu’s pacing is deliberate, letting the quiet moments breathe while the tension builds in the background. Thematically, the film explores the clash between inherited livelihoods and modern aspirations, a conflict that feels both local and universal.
