The CinePearl Take

Baudry’s direction shines in the film’s deliberate pacing, letting the weight of each decision linger like the iron resolve of its title character. The unnamed lead portraying de Gaulle delivers a nuanced performance, capturing both the charismatic authority and the private doubts of the future president. The screenplay balances grand wartime set pieces with quieter moments of exile, making the political stakes feel intensely personal. While the lack of star power may be noticeable, the ensemble of seasoned French character actors grounds the story in authenticity.
