Why Watch This
Dog of God blends Latvia’s bleak countryside folklore with slap‑stick gore, delivering a tongue‑in‑cheek satire of religious zealotry and pet‑owner paranoia that’s both unsettling and hilariously absurd.
Best For
Comedy horror fans, Cult film collectors, Slavic cinema enthusiasts, Dark satire lovers, Midnight movie crowds
The CinePearl Take
Director Raitis Abele leans into absurdist terror, letting the titular canine—an over‑the‑top holy hound—steal every scene. The film’s pacing oscillates between frantic chase sequences and dead‑pan dialogue, creating a jittery rhythm that keeps the laughs as uneasy as the scares. While the cast remains anonymous, the lead’s physical comedy—especially the exaggerated pantomime of a priest trying to exorcise a mutt—grounds the madness in surprisingly earnest performance.
