The CinePearl Take
Ambriz’s direction is unapologetically bold, letting the grainy textures of the puppets breathe life into a story that feels both timeless and contemporary. The pacing occasionally wavers, but the film’s central theme of reclaiming forgotten heritage shines through every scene. Voice work from a rotating cast of Mexican storytellers adds an authentic lyrical quality that anchors the fantastical plot.
