Why Watch This
Luis Ortega blends galloping absurdity with heartfelt melancholy, turning the world of horse racing into a playground for dark comedy. The film’s off‑beat premise—an ex‑jockey forced to “kill the jockey” in a literal and figurative sense—offers a fresh spin on redemption stories.
Best For
Comedy‑drama fans, Horse racing enthusiasts, Dark humor lovers, Indie film buffs, Quirky character studies
The CinePearl Take
Ortega’s direction walks a tightrope between slapstick set‑pieces and genuine pathos, never letting the tone slip into outright farce. The lead—an unknown actor who delivers a surprisingly nuanced performance as the broken‑down jockey—anchors the chaos with a gritty sincerity. Pacing is deliberately uneven, mirroring the protagonist’s own stumble‑and‑rise journey, while the film’s underlying theme of confronting one’s past feels surprisingly resonant.
