The CinePearl Take
Martel's direction transforms a conventional city‑portrait into a lyrical essay, using lingering long takes that let the viewer feel the pulse of each locale. The film's sound design—ambient street noises, distant traffic, murmured conversations—acts as a character in its own right, reinforcing themes of transition and identity. While there are no traditional performances, the spontaneous testimonies of locals provide an authentic, unvarnished counterpoint to the visual grandeur. The pacing is deliberate, rewarding patience with moments of unexpected beauty.
