Élie Chouraqui’s 1987 “Man on Fire” delivers a lean, blood‑soaked revenge tale that feels ripped straight from the gritty streets of 1980s Italy. The film’s stark cinematography and relentless pacing make it a perfect showcase for Piero Vida’s steely, no‑nonsense performance as a haunted ex‑cop turned vigilante.

Crime thriller fans, 80s cinema lovers, Italian film enthusiasts, Vigilante story addicts, Cult film hunters
The CinePearl Take
“Man on Fire” thrives on its unflinching atmosphere; the opening chase sequence sets a relentless tempo that never lets up. Piero Vida steals the show, embodying a man whose quiet rage is as palpable as the gunfire that follows. While the plot is straightforward, Chouraqui’s use of chiaroscuro lighting adds a layer of moral ambiguity, turning a standard revenge plot into a meditation on justice and obsession.
