Why Watch This

Quentin Dupieux’s “Mandibles” blends absurdist humor with a surprisingly tender buddy‑story, all revolving around a gigantic beetle that two hapless friends discover in a cardboard box. The film’s dead‑pan delivery and surreal set‑pieces make every minute feel like a mischievous experiment in comedy.

Best For

Fans of off‑beat French comedy, Surreal humor lovers, Quirky sci‑fi enthusiasts, Late‑night binge watchers, Cult film collectors

The CinePearl Take

Dupieux’s direction keeps the narrative deliberately sluggish, letting the ridiculous premise breathe and the jokes land with a dry, almost hypnotic rhythm. The chemistry between the two leads—though unnamed—anchors the chaos, especially in the scene where they attempt to train the beetle for a street‑racing showdown. The film’s underlying theme of friendship surviving the most ludicrous circumstances feels oddly sincere amid the absurdity.
