The CinePearl Take
Gulzar’s debut showcases his poetic eye for everyday tragedy, with a deliberate pace that lets the tension between mother and son simmer. Meena Kumari delivers a luminous, tear‑streaked performance that feels both vulnerable and fierce, while Vinod Khanna’s understated intensity grounds the film’s moral ambiguity. The film’s theme of familial estrangement feels surprisingly modern, and its evocative soundtrack underscores the melancholy without ever feeling manipulative.
