The CinePearl Take

Banderas inhabits the director Salvador with a quiet dignity that makes every flashback feel lived‑in, while Penélope Cruz’s supporting turn adds a tender counterpoint. Almodóvar’s pacing is deliberately languid, allowing scenes to breathe and emotions to settle, which reinforces the film’s meditation on aging and regret. The lush color palette and meticulous production design turn personal recollection into visual poetry, underscoring the central theme that art is both a refuge and a reckoning.
