The CinePearl Take

Kaneko’s pacing is deliberate, allowing each ripple on the water to echo the protagonist’s inner turmoil. The lead actor—though uncredited—delivers a quietly powerful performance, conveying volumes with a single lingering glance. The film’s sound design, dominated by the river’s murmur, amplifies its themes of continuity and loss, making the experience feel almost tactile.
