Why Watch This

Bertrand Mandico’s “Roma Elastica” turns the streets of a near‑future Rome into a living, breathing metaphor for gender fluidity, using kinetic camera work and vivid color palettes to make every body a canvas. It’s a bold, sensory‑rich meditation on love, desire, and the elasticity of identity that refuses conventional storytelling.

The CinePearl Take

Mandico’s signature surrealism is in full force, with each scene unfolding like a tableau vivant that blurs the line between reality and dream. The unnamed non‑binary lead delivers a magnetic, physically expressive performance that anchors the film’s abstract narrative. While the pacing drifts deliberately, it never feels lazy—every lingering shot deepens the emotional resonance of the characters’ search for belonging. Thematically, “Roma Elastica” is a celebration of bodily autonomy, making the city itself a protagonist that stretches and reshapes along with its inhabitants.
