The CinePearl Take

Director Abrar Alvi balances lyrical melancholy with stark realism, letting the decaying mansion become a character in its own right. Meena Kumari’s nuanced portrayal of a woman trapped by tradition is the film’s emotional core, while Guru Dutt’s subtle cameo adds a layer of tragic irony. The deliberate pacing may feel languid to modern eyes, but it rewards patience with richly textured scenes that linger long after the credits roll.
