The CinePearl Take
Ozeki’s direction leans heavily on lingering long takes, allowing the forest to become a character in its own right. Though the cast is anonymous, the unnamed actress playing Michiko delivers a surprisingly nuanced performance, conveying yearning through subtle gestures. The film’s pacing can feel deliberate to the point of languor, but that very stillness amplifies the thematic undercurrents of isolation and yearning. Ultimately, it’s a daring, if uneven, exploration of erotic longing set against a haunting natural backdrop.
