The CinePearl Take
Lead actress Yūki Tanaka (playing the titular mum) anchors the film with a performance that oscillates between unsettling calm and explosive vulnerability, making the character’s hidden motives feel both plausible and chilling. Sekine’s pacing is deliberate, allowing the audience to savor the slow‑burn revelations while the soundtrack’s minimalist score heightens the uneasy atmosphere. Thematically, the film interrogates the myth of the self‑sacrificing mother, exposing how personal ambition can masquerade as familial devotion.
