Why Watch This
The Borderlands uses the found‑footage format to thrust you into a law‑less stretch of the U.S.–Mexico border where a small crew of documentarians stumble upon a mythic, shape‑shifting entity. Its raw handheld camera work and real‑time panic give the horror a gritty immediacy that feels more like a missing‑person case file than a staged set piece.
Best For
Horror fans, Found‑footage enthusiasts, Indie film lovers, Border folklore buffs, Late‑night scare seekers
The CinePearl Take
Gordon Kennedy delivers a surprisingly grounded performance, anchoring the film’s frantic improvisation with a calm, investigative demeanor that makes the escalating terror feel personal. Goldner’s pacing is deliberately uneven, allowing moments of quiet tension to swell before the sudden, visceral scares that punctuate the narrative. Thematically, the film taps into the anxieties of territorial liminality, using the border as both a literal and metaphorical threshold between safety and the unknown. While the low budget shows through in some shaky visuals, the commitment to atmosphere makes it a noteworthy entry in the found‑footage horror canon.
