Why Watch This

Tom DeSimone’s “The Concrete Jungle” delivers unapologetic 80s exploitation thrills set inside a women’s penitentiary, where power plays and brutal survival instincts collide. The film’s raw, handheld camera work and gritty atmosphere make it a time‑capsule of low‑budget horror‑drama that still feels oddly relevant.

Best For

Exploitation fans, Women‑in‑prison enthusiasts, 80s cult seekers, B‑movie lovers, Dark drama fans

The CinePearl Take

Tracey E. Bregman anchors the chaos with a surprisingly vulnerable portrayal of a naïve newcomer forced to adapt to the prison’s savage hierarchy. Jill St. John, better known for glossy TV work, turns up the menace in a brief but memorable turn as the sadistic “warden’s favorite.” While the pacing drifts in the middle act, the film regains momentum with a brutal showdown that underscores its bleak commentary on institutional corruption.
