Why Watch This

The stark cinematography and unsettling score make the hunt for Mengele feel both historically grounded and nightmarishly speculative.

The CinePearl Take
Serebrennikov leans on his signature theatrical flair, letting the narrative breathe in long, uncomfortable silences that heighten the moral dread. While the cast remains anonymous, the lead’s chameleon‑like performance as a relentless investigator anchors the film’s sprawling timeline. The pacing is deliberately uneven, reflecting the fragmented nature of post‑war mythmaking, and the recurring motif of mirrors forces viewers to confront complicity. Ultimately, the film is a provocative meditation on memory rather than a straightforward thriller.
