Why Watch This

Julie Taymor’s “The Glorias” offers a kaleidoscopic portrait of Gloria Steinem, stitching together archival footage with three actresses—Alicia Vikander, Janelle Monáe and Bette Midler—to trace the evolution of a feminist icon. The film’s bold visual style and intimate moments make it a compelling study of personal and political transformation.

Best For

Biography fans, Feminist history buffs, Drama lovers, Women’s‑rights advocates, Film‑studies students

The CinePearl Take

Vikander delivers a nuanced performance that captures Steinem’s early idealism, while Monáe brings fierce energy to the activist years, and Midler anchors the reflective later life with gravitas. Taymor’s pacing sometimes feels episodic, but it mirrors the fragmented nature of memory and media coverage. The film’s central theme—how personal conviction can reshape public discourse—resonates strongly in today’s climate.
