Why Watch This
The Ivy is a hauntingly intimate study of a reclusive botanist whose obsession with a mysterious vine leads her down a path of psychological unraveling. Director Ana Cristina Barragán blends claustrophobic set‑pieces with lush, tactile imagery, making the film feel both a visual poem and a nerve‑tight thriller.
Best For
Thriller fans, Indie lovers, Female director fans, Moodier evenings, Psychological drama enthusiasts
The CinePearl Take
Barra gán’s debut showcases a striking command of atmosphere; the muted color palette mirrors the protagonist’s internal decay. Lead actress Sofia Méndez (making her first major screen appearance) delivers a quietly ferocious performance, anchoring the film’s slow‑burn tension. While the pacing can feel deliberate to the point of languor, it rewards viewers who relish mood over plot‑driven fireworks, and the recurring motif of the ivy itself becomes a potent metaphor for unchecked desire.
