Why Watch This
Robert Benchley's deadpan wit shines in this 1928 slap‑slap comedy about a hapless marine biologist who treats a humble polyp like a love‑interest. The film’s absurd premise and rapid‑fire one‑liners make it a perfect glimpse into early sound-era satire.
Best For
Classic comedy lovers, Silent‑era enthusiasts, Benchley fans, History buffs, Quirky short film collectors
The CinePearl Take
Benchley’s timing is the engine that drives the oddball narrative, turning a simple marine lab set‑up into a cascade of visual gags. Thomas Hardie Chalmers keeps the pacing brisk, never letting the novelty wear thin. While the plot is intentionally flimsy, the film’s charm lies in its willingness to mock scientific pomposity and courtship rituals alike.
