Why Watch This
Pedro Martín‑Calero turns the mist‑shrouded hills of Galicia into a character of its own, weaving ancient pagan rites into a modern nightmare. The film’s relentless, low‑frequency soundscape and claustrophobic framing keep the tension simmering long after the credits roll.
Best For
Horror fans, Folk horror enthusiasts, Late‑night viewers, Spanish cinema lovers, Thriller addicts
The CinePearl Take
Martín‑Calero’s debut is a study in slow‑burn dread, letting the landscape dictate the film’s rhythm. Lead newcomer Alba Ruiz delivers a chillingly restrained performance as a grieving mother who slowly unravels under the weight of village superstition. The pacing is deliberate, allowing each unsettling revelation to land with maximum impact, while the recurring motif of the mournful cantiga underscores the theme of collective guilt.
