Why Watch This
Louise Alston’s “All My Friends Are Back in Brisbane” captures the bittersweet reunion of a tight‑knit crew of twenty‑somethings who left the Sunshine State for global adventures, only to discover that home isn’t the place they left behind. The film blends witty dialogue with sun‑drenched Brisbane backdrops, making the city itself feel like a character in the story.
Best For
Australian cinema fans, Coming‑of‑age lovers, Group‑friendship dramas, Road‑trip enthusiasts, Women‑directed film buffs
The CinePearl Take
Alston’s direction shines brightest in the ensemble scenes, where the chemistry of the cast—particularly the breakout performance by newcomer Maya Liu as the reluctant leader—feels authentic and unforced. The pacing mirrors the rhythm of a lazy summer afternoon, allowing moments of quiet reflection to sit alongside the film’s sharper, laugh‑out‑loud beats. Themes of nostalgia, personal growth, and the tension between wanderlust and belonging are explored with a sincerity that elevates the script beyond a simple reunion comedy.
