The CinePearl Take

Jeo Baby’s latest venture is anchored by a standout performance from newcomer Anjali Menon, whose nuanced portrayal of a young woman torn between duty and desire feels both specific and universal. The film’s deliberate pacing allows the rural landscape to become a character in its own right, echoing the protagonists’ internal rhythms. While the narrative occasionally drifts into melodrama, its honest depiction of class and gender dynamics keeps it compelling. Overall, “Kaathal: The Core” is a modest but emotionally resonant addition to contemporary Malayalam cinema.
