The CinePearl Take

Yuri Gomes delivers a breakout performance as Gugu, balancing fierce determination with fragile vulnerability, while Lázaro Ramos provides a grounded counterpoint as her pragmatic father. The film’s pacing mirrors the protagonist’s rhythm—slow enough to linger on emotional beats, yet quick enough to keep the narrative pulse alive. Miranda’s use of Rio’s neighborhoods as a character in itself underscores the theme of belonging versus escape, making the drama resonate beyond its specific setting.
