Why Watch This
Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum blends relentless found‑footage tension with the chilling lore of a real‑life abandoned psychiatric hospital, delivering scares that feel both visceral and eerily plausible.
Best For
Horror fans, Found‑footage lovers, Korean cinema enthusiasts, Ghost story seekers, Thriller addicts
The CinePearl Take
Director Jung Bum‑shik keeps the camera rolling long enough to let dread accumulate, and Lee Seung‑wook’s dead‑pan bravado anchors the chaos with a relatable everyman. The pacing is deliberately slow, allowing the oppressive silence of the asylum to become a character in its own right. Themes of curiosity versus forbidden knowledge echo classic horror tropes while feeling fresh in a modern Korean context.
