The CinePearl Take
Jesper Christensen’s stoic yet deeply human portrayal of King Haakon anchors the film, making the monarch’s moral dilemma feel immediate and relatable. Erik Poppe’s direction keeps the pacing deliberate, allowing the tension of the German ultimatum to build without sacrificing character moments. The film’s production design immerses you in 1940 Oslo, turning a national crisis into a universally resonant story of courage versus capitulation.
