The CinePearl Take
Albie Woodington delivers a surprisingly layered Edmond, balancing the character’s naive optimism with a steely resolve after his years in the Château d'If. Reynolds paces the film with deliberate elegance, allowing the intrigue to unfold without sacrificing momentum. Michael Wincott’s villainous Count de Morcerf is chillingly charismatic, adding a dark counterpoint to the film’s romantic undercurrents. While the romance can feel melodramatic at times, the thematic core—justice versus vengeance—remains compelling.
