Why Watch This

“An Zéro – Comment le Luxembourg a disparu” fuses documentary rigor with fictional speculation, turning the Grand Duchy’s near‑invisibility into a haunting meditation on national identity. Its inventive blend of archival footage, staged vignettes, and poetic narration creates a uniquely unsettling portrait of a country that seems to vanish before our eyes.

The CinePearl Take

Becker and Tonelotto’s collaboration feels like a visual essay, where every cut is deliberate and every silence amplifies the sense of loss. The film’s pacing is deliberately languid, allowing the audience to linger on the juxtaposition of real newsreel and absurdist reenactments. Myriam Tonelotto’s off‑screen narration, though uncredited, anchors the chaos with a calm, almost clinical voice that underscores the theme of erasure. It’s a daring experiment that rewards patience and curiosity.
