Why Watch This

Best For
Indie film lovers, Fans of modern Indian cinema, Dark rom‑com enthusiasts, Audiences craving edgy storytelling, Cult classic seekers
The CinePearl Take
Anurag Kashyap’s direction strips away the melodrama of classic Devdas, opting for a kinetic, almost documentary‑like pace that mirrors the protagonist’s self‑destruction. Abhay Deol delivers a manic, sympathetic performance that oscillates between reckless debauchery and heartbreaking fragility. Kalki Koechlin shines as the tormented Chandramukhi, turning a supporting role into a poignant study of love’s redemption. The film’s unapologetic eroticism and sharp satire keep the narrative fresh, even as it pays homage to its source material.
