Why Watch This
Latin Blood – The Ballad of Ney Matogrosso is a kinetic love‑letter to Brazil’s most flamboyant rock icon, tracing his rise from the margins of São Paulo’s underground scene to a national symbol of gender‑defying performance. The film blends concert footage, intimate interviews, and vivid recreations to explore how Matogrosso’s art became a rallying cry for queer visibility in a turbulent political era.

The CinePearl Take
Esmir Filho’s direction is a kaleidoscopic collage that never feels disjointed; the rhythm of the editing mirrors Matogrosso’s own stage energy, keeping viewers breathlessly engaged. Though the cast remains anonymous, archival performances serve as a magnetic centerpiece, allowing the singer’s charisma to dominate every frame. The film’s thematic core—celebrating self‑creation against authoritarian backlash—resonates powerfully today, even if the pacing occasionally drifts into reverent nostalgia.
