The CinePearl Take
Eili Harboe delivers a hauntingly nuanced performance, capturing Thelma’s fragile curiosity and mounting dread with barely‑spoken intensity. Trier’s deliberate pacing lets the film breathe, allowing the mystery of Thelma’s powers to unfold alongside her blooming romance with Anja. The movie’s strongest thread is its exploration of repression—both societal and psychic—making the supernatural elements feel like a metaphor for queer awakening.
