The CinePearl Take

Robert De Niro’s hauntingly restrained performance anchors the film, capturing the quiet desperation of a soldier returning home. The deliberate pacing lets the audience feel the slow erosion of innocence, while Christopher Walken’s volatile energy provides a stark contrast that heightens the emotional stakes. At its core, the film is a study in how ordinary people are forced into extraordinary moral compromises, making its anti‑war message resonate decades later.
