The CinePearl Take
Alayón’s debut is surprisingly disciplined, letting the choreography drive the narrative rather than relying on heavy exposition. The breakout performance by newcomer Maya Torres as the determined rookie dancer anchors the film, delivering a nuanced blend of vulnerability and fire. While the pacing occasionally stalls during the back‑story segments, the climactic battle sequence is expertly edited, making the final showdown feel like a living, breathing performance art piece. At its heart, the film is a meditation on how passion can resurrect a community on the brink of dissolution.
