The CinePearl Take

Marc Turtletaub’s direction is as patient as it is precise, allowing each scene to breathe like a well‑turned paragraph. The lead performance—delivered by an uncredited newcomer—captures the protagonist’s yearning with a subtle tremor that feels both vulnerable and scholarly. The pacing mirrors Borges’s own riddles, moving slowly but never stagnant, while the recurring motif of mirrors underscores the film’s meditation on identity and authorship.
