The CinePearl Take
Polley’s willingness to appear as both filmmaker and subject creates a compelling tension that drives the narrative forward. Rebecca Jenkins delivers a hauntingly honest performance as Polley’s mother, anchoring the film’s emotional core. The deliberate pacing—slow enough to let each confession settle, yet brisk enough to keep the mystery alive—mirrors the way memory itself works. At its heart, the documentary asks how stories shape identity, and it asks that question with both tenderness and unflinching honesty.
