Why Watch This
Julian Radlmaier’s “Phantoms of July” captures the bittersweet chaos of a midsummer town festival, where forgotten secrets surface amid slap‑slap‑bang jokes and tender moments. Its off‑beat humor is anchored by an unexpectedly poignant look at friendship, loss, and the thin line between myth and memory.
Best For

The CinePearl Take
Radlmaier’s direction balances a breezy, almost improvisational rhythm with moments of quiet introspection, letting the town’s “phantoms” feel both literal and metaphorical. The ensemble—though comprised of fresh faces—delivers a surprisingly natural chemistry that grounds the film’s more surreal set‑pieces. Thematically, the movie explores how communal stories can both heal and haunt, making the laughter feel earned rather than forced.
