Why Watch This
Yang Jong‑hyun’s “People and Meat” offers a startlingly honest look at Seoul’s forgotten seniors, turning a simple act of dashing out of a restaurant into a powerful metaphor for social abandonment. The film’s quiet humor and unflinching realism make it a compelling study of dignity in the face of neglect.
Best For
Korean drama fans, Social‑issue enthusiasts, Elderly‑focused narratives, Indie festival lovers, Seoul city explorers
The CinePearl Take
Park Geun‑hyung delivers a masterclass in restrained sorrow, embodying a man whose quiet rebellion masks deep pain. The pacing is deliberately measured, allowing each fleeting encounter to resonate long after the credits roll. Lim Na‑moo’s screenplay balances melancholy with occasional dark humor, underscoring the systemic indifference toward Korea’s aging population. Yang’s direction keeps the camera intimate, making the bustling city feel both oppressive and oddly tender.
