The film’s lingering focus on one family’s struggle to stay afloat amid rising waters makes it an emotionally resonant meditation on loss and resilience.

The CinePearl Take

Director Mascha Schilinski delivers a measured, almost hypnotic pace that mirrors the slow rise of the floodwaters, allowing the audience to feel the tension build organically. Lead actress Lena Vogel (as the mother) gives a raw, understated performance that anchors the film’s emotional core, conveying grief without a word. The recurring motif of distant church bells—heard but never seen—underscores the theme that nature’s warning often goes unheard until it’s too late.
