Why Watch This
David Lynch tells a quietly powerful true story about 73‑year‑old Alvin Straight’s cross‑country journey on a lawn mower, turning an ordinary road trip into a meditation on age, family, and determination. The film’s gentle pacing and breathtaking Midwestern landscapes make it a rare, contemplative road movie.

The CinePearl Take
Richard Farnsworth delivers a quietly heroic, Oscar‑nominated performance that anchors the film’s emotional core, turning a simple man into a symbol of stubborn grace. Lynch’s direction strips away his usual surreal flair, opting for an unadorned realism that lets the scenery and the protagonist’s steady resolve speak for themselves. The deliberate, unhurried pacing may test impatient viewers, but it rewards those who relish character‑driven storytelling.
