The CinePearl Take

Sharlto Copley (credited as Louis Minnaar in some markets) delivers a breakout performance, balancing sardonic humor with genuine pathos as the reluctant bureaucrat Wikus van de Merwe. The film’s pacing masterfully ramps from claustrophobic confinement to explosive set‑pieces without losing its emotional core. Blomkamp’s use of handheld camera work and news‑reel inserts heightens the biopunk atmosphere, turning a simple alien‑invasion premise into a sharp critique of xenophobia and corporate greed.
