The CinePearl Take
The animation dazzles with meticulous attention to courtly costumes and architecture, immersing viewers in a richly rendered Heian‑inspired setting. Maomao’s dead‑pan delivery, voiced by a rising star in the seiyū world, anchors the film’s humor and intellect. While the pacing occasionally stalls during exposition, the central puzzle is clever enough to sustain momentum, and the thematic exploration of power versus knowledge feels surprisingly resonant for a genre‑bending anime film.
