The CinePearl Take

Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman weave a compelling narrative that feels both scholarly and deeply personal. Harvey Fierstein’s commentary stands out, delivering wry humor while exposing painful industry truths. The pacing is brisk, moving through decades with just enough context to let each era’s tropes breathe. Ultimately, the film is a powerful reminder that representation matters, even when it’s hidden in subtext.
