Why Watch This

It blends razor‑sharp satire with a heartbreaking true‑story, turning Tonya Harding’s rise and fall into a wildly entertaining roller‑coaster. Margot Robbie’s chameleon‑like turn and Allison Janney’s ferocious supporting performance keep the tone both absurd and emotionally resonant.

The CinePearl Take

Craig Gillespie’s direction balances frantic slapstick with the quiet devastation of a woman fighting a rigged system, never letting the narrative lose its momentum. Robbie captures Tonya’s fierce ambition and vulnerability in equal measure, while Janney steals every scene as the brutal mother who both fuels and hinders her daughter’s drive. The film’s brisk pacing and clever use of archival footage keep the story lively, making the tragedy feel like a darkly comic spectacle rather than a solemn lecture.
